Problems That
Adolescents
Can Have
August 11th
Breakfast - The Most Important Meal of the Day
Ways To Help Your Teen Own the Diet
My Front Flower Garden
In addition to continuing to
have problems with
schoolwork and peer
relationships, the ADHD
adolescent typically has low self-esteem.  This can make
the turbulent teenage years even more difficult for the child
and family.

Because the symptoms of hyperactivity often change as
children get older, and the adolescent might have greater
control over behavior and activity level, doctors used to
think that the problems disappeared in adolescence.
Doctor Feingold  knew that this was not the case.  He
pointed out long ago that children don't "grow out" of their
problems; another misconception was that girls were
rarely affected.  A rather odd myth was that only one child
in a family would be  hyperactive.  Parents using the
Feingold Diet have known since the 1970's that these
beliefs are all wrong.

excerpted  from Why Can't My Child Behave?
You cannot force a teenager to stay on a diet, and
many will, at some point, go through a phase in
which they will eat unacceptable foods (and suffer
the unpleasant consequences).  The following
suggestions may help you:

  • Try to treat the teenager as an adult.  Share
your newsletter and tell him what those
additives really are (petrochemicals), and that
some of the dyes double as pesticides!

  • Use only allowed foods in the home.  Cook
and serve them without making an issue of it.

  • Try to provide as many substitutes as you can
so your teen's food is not obviously different
from that of the peer group.

  • Remember how hard it is for anyone to stay
on a diet all the time.

  • Most teens enjoy finding fault with their
parent's generation.  Show them the list of
ingredients on some processed foods.  They
may relish learning what a "rip off" many
    processed foods are.

What is all the Fuss About MSG?
Monosodium Glutamate (MSG, Accent) - a
"flavor enhancer" used in meats, gravies, soups,
sauces and  many Asian and vegetarian foods.
Hydrolyzed vegetable protein (HVP), or hydrolyzed
plant protein function in a manner similar to MSG.
MSG can also be hidden under other names including
autolyzed yeast extract, flavors and many more.

MSG affects nearly everyone in some way because
glutamic acid increases in blood  when MSG is eaten
and  is used throughout the body as a chemical
messenger and neurotransmitter.

The following symptoms and parts of your body can
be affected by MSG:
  • Allergies
  • Blood pressure
  • Blood vessels
  • Blood sugar
  • Brain
  • Digestive system
  • Endocrine system
  • Hearing

Hi all,
Out of the Box Food is hosting our first "Kids Only" Recipe Challenge started
on July 24th as a way to encourage picky eaters to try new foods.   I am
reaching out to you in hopes that you might be willing to share this fun event
with your readers on your blogs & social media.

The Recipe Challenge will run for two weeks and my hope is that we can
reach as many children and families as possible and give them a new way to
introduce real, fresh foods.

This first challenge will offer a prize from Handstand Kids Cookbook
Company.  If the Challenge is well received and participation is high, I would
be excited to offer more of these challenges and include additional healthy
product giveaways for families.

I would be very grateful for any encouragement/promotion you are willing to
offer.
Thank you for your support,
Kim
